Adam speaks with Brandon Webb, a former Navy SEAL, entrepreneur, and author of Mastering Fear. The conversation begins with Brandon sharing his early adventures and fears, including his early fear of sharks (02:29 - 10:07). Brandon then speaks about his experience at Navy SEAL BUD/S training and how he overcame the challenges within, arguably, the toughest military training in the world (10:08 - 16:04). The discussion then turns to the fear that Brandon felt in his military career and his career in business (16:05 - 19:14) and how his experience helping a friend learn how to swim inspired him to write Mastering Fear (19:15 - 27:58). Adam and Brandon then discuss how we can overcome fear of the unknown—even when we realize our fears are unlikely to happen (27:59 - 32:33) and Brandon's five-leg action plan to confront fear, including the importance of decisions (32:34 - 35:30), following your gut (35:31 - 39:24), visualization (39:25 - 43:06), and letting go and taking action—even if you feel like you aren't ready (43:07 - 46:50). The interview concludes with a discussion of the importance of building a habit of taking action (46:51 - 48:36) and the one thing that listeners can do today to help them master their fears (48:37 - 53:31).
